Effective October 31, 2008, J. Gary Cooper retired from the Board of Directors of United States Steel Corporation ("U. S. Steel"). Mr. Cooper retired in accordance with U. S. Steel's By-Laws which require non-employee directors to retire at the end of the month in which they reach the age of 72.
